(b. 1937)
Studied at the Ion Andreescu Institute of Fine Arts in Cluj-Napoca. An emblematic painter of the neo-avant-garde of the 1970s, Cornel Brudașcu is one of the few Romanian artists associated with Pop Art aesthetics, later turning towards hyperrealism. The radical shifts in paradigm brought about by the introduction of new visual elements, together with the diversity of themes and genres he has explored, have gradually shaped a distinctive artistic expression that has had a strong influence on younger generations.
Cornel Brudașcu is fascinated by the body in motion, his canvases animated by a tender yet restless eroticism. With rough, expressive brushstrokes, the artist portrays the sensual and at the same time melancholic expression of intimacy.
