Dana Kavelina

(b. 1995, Melitopol)

Dana Kavelina (b. 1995, Melitopol) is an artist based in Lviv, working primarily with animation and video, as well as installation, painting, and graphics. She holds a degree from the Department of Graphics at the National Technical University of Ukraine. Kavelina’s work often explores themes of military violence and war, focusing on the role of the victim as a political subject. Her art delves into the complex relationship between historical and individual trauma, memory, and misrepresentation. Her 2020 film, Letter to a Turtledove, was acquired by The Museum of Modern Art in New York and featured in the exhibition Signals: How Video Transformed the World. Kavelina’s work has been presented at prestigious venues, including The Kyiv Perennial in Vienna, the 60th Venice Biennale, MHKA Antwerp, and the Steirischer Herbst festival in 2022 and 2023. She received the Main Prize at the 7th edition of the PinchukArtCentre Prize and was shortlisted for the Future Generation Art Prize in 2024.
