Doru Tulcan
(b. 1943)
Is a Romanian painter and co-founder of the SIGMA group in Timișoara, alongside Ștefan Bertalan and Constantin Flondor. He was also a lecturer at the Faculty of Arts of the West University of Timișoara. His drawings and sketches explore the dimension of the human body and its movements. He is interested in the conceptual perspective of art and that of individual reality. Doru Tulcan also worked with performance art, seeking the depth of human sensitivity in body movements.
Doru Tulcan, a member of the SIGMA group between 1969 and 1978, played an important role in the development of interdisciplinary artistic practices that combined mathematics, psychology, cybernetics, and bionics. In addition to drawing and engraving, the artist has taken a particular interest in the experimental practice of photography and cinematography, as evidenced by this poetic study of flight.
