Iosif Király

(b. 1957)

Is a member of the subREAL group (since 1991) and co-founder of the Photo-Video and Computerized Image Processing Department at the National University of Arts Bucharest (1995). His works investigate the congruence between perception, time, and memory, as well as the spaces and methods through which these are preserved, using photography, installation, performance, and drawing. His artistic practice is augmented by his pedagogical activity, the publication of books and essays on photography, research projects related to architecture and urbanism, and his involvement in the mail-art network.

Iosif Király’s reconstructions form a heterogeneous photographic series that incorporates multiple perspectives on time and space. Through subtle shifts in framing between photographs taken over a period of time, the artist makes possible an image of memory in the process of being recorded.
