Kinema Ikon

Kinema Ikon is a multimedia workshop founded in 1970 by George Săbău. In its early days, the group was dedicated to the idea of experimental film and the appropriation of an identity through this practice. The group is a promoter of contemporary art in Romania and is currently active at the Arad Art Museum, its initiatives being coordinated by the artist Călin Man.
After having a permanent headquarters, Kinema Ikon responded to the initiative of the Centre Pompidou in Paris to start a collaboration between 1994 and 2004. In 2003, Kinema Ikon represented Romania at the Venice Biennale.
Survival Ki is an external hard drive containing all of Kinema Ikon’s work since 1970. The content was periodically updated until its expiration on December 13, 2015.
The most recent material was transferred to a new medium with a new expiration date. Thus, the accumulated information is always preserved.
