Mara Verhoogt

(b.2001, Bucharest)

Mara Verhoogt is a Romanian-Dutch interdisciplinary artist born in 2001. She received a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Chelsea College of Art in London. Her practice spans soft sculpture, ceramics, found objects, and video, blending these mediums to construct fragmented anatomies that blur the lines between human, animal, myth, and artefact. Her creative universe is populated by hybrid beings, stitched together from memory, psychoanalytic residue, and material history. Central to her work are themes of desire, excess, consumption, fertility, contamination, and symbiosis.

She has participated in and co-organised various exhibitions and events in London and Bucharest, as well as international art fairs in Milan and Mexico. In 2023, she became a founding member of STOL Collective. Mara Verhoogt is currently represented by Catinca Tăbăcaru Gallery in Bucharest and East Contemporary in Milan.
