Was born in Romania and was a cofounder of the Timișoara-based Group 111 alongside Ștefan Bertalan and Constantin Flondor. After several participations in various exhibitions and biennials, including the Biennial Exhibition of Constructivist Art in Nuremberg (Germany) in 1969 where he represented Romania, he left for the United-States where he found recognition and success. Roman Cotoșman was a cofounding member of Group 111. His research in the field of abstract art led him to a formalist and geometric analytical practice that was then prevalent in the activity of Group 111. Upon leaving, he then engaged in a more abstract and minimalist aesthetic, expressed in particular through objects and sculptures.
