About the workshop
“FACE TO FACE” is a plasticine modelling workshop for children aged 4 to 10, organised as part of the Picasso en visite exhibition. Inspired by Pablo Picasso’s Cubist portraits, the workshop invites children to explore geometric shapes, colours and the possibilities of transforming an image through different techniques and materials.
The workshop begins with a short guided tour of the exhibition, where children will discover Pablo Picasso’s artistic universe and learn more about Cubism and how the human face can be broken down and reconstructed using geometric shapes. Together, we will observe how facial features can be represented from different perspectives, how proportions can be altered and how an image can take on new forms by changing the material and working technique.
During the practical part, each child will create their own Cubist portrait using plasticine. Participants will have reproductions of Cubist portraits and other works from the exhibition to use as starting points for their own compositions. Using a transparent surface placed over the reference images, children will model and combine geometric shapes to create relief portraits.
At the end, the works will be removed from the working surface and presented as individual objects, allowing children to observe how a two-dimensional image can be reinterpreted and transformed into a three-dimensional composition.
