Maria Sârbu is a lecturer at the Faculty of Arts and Design in Timișoara. She studied art history and art theory at the Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca. She has been interested in contemporary art since her doctoral studies, when she conducted research on Romanian art in the post-communist period. Her collaboration with Art Encounters Foundation started in 2017 with the publication of the book “Art Guide. Introduction to Romanian contemporary art”. As a curator she realised a series of projects in collaboration with Avantpost Group, and in 2018 she founded the curatorial programme DRAFT. In 2019-2021 she was an assistant in the project ‘Gender Politics and the Art of European Socialist States’ initiated by Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. Adjacent to her academic and curatorial activities, she is concerned with developing friendly methods of familiarising the public with notions and currents in art history.
