Mihai Pop · How to Build an Artist’s Career

The talk led by curator and gallerist Mihai Pop offers an insight into the tools and choices a young artist makes at the beginning of their journey in the art world.

From artist-run spaces to galleries, museums and residencies that can support an artist’s development and maturation, each step revolves around the search for authenticity rather than immediate success. Mihai Pop has experienced several “beginnings” of his own and has built, step by step, one of the most important galleries in Romania and Europe: Plan B Cluj / Berlin.

Mihai Pop is a visual artist and, together with Mihaela Luțea, co-coordinator of Plan B Gallery, opened in Cluj in 2005. In 2008, Plan B Gallery opened a second permanent exhibition space in Berlin. Mihai Pop is also one of the initiators of the Paintbrush Factory in Cluj and was Commissioner of the Romanian Pavilion at the 2007 Venice Biennale.
