(b. 1999)
Ciprian Ciobanu (b. 1999) is a visual artist based in Timișoara. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Painting from the Faculty of Arts and Design at the West University of Timișoara, where he is currently a doctoral student.
His practice investigates the relationship between gesture, form, time, and mediation, situated at the intersection of formalism and conceptualism. His approach replaces traditional painting with an
infrastructure of archiving and reproduction. His process consists of isolating and decomposing pre-existing visual sources to extract singular elements. These fragments
form a personal visual vocabulary, an inventory that dictates the evolution of the works. In this process, the artist no longer occupies the position of central author, but functions as an instrument within his own system of production and mediated reproduction.
