Art Encounters · 46C Take Ionescu, Timișoara

The art collective Apparatus 22 is the guest of the third Meet the Artists session, part of the programme leading up to the Art Encounters Biennial 2027.

Under the title On ring-mistresses, facsimiles and what could really fit in a small human heart, the artists will introduce their practice to the public in a conversation that opens new perspectives on the research and projects they are developing for the upcoming Biennial.

Meet the Artists continues the series of encounters through which audiences can get to know the artists of the Art Encounters Biennial 2027 before the exhibition opens.

The event will be held in English. Admission is free.

The seventh edition of the Art Encounters Biennial, curated by Philippe Van Cauteren, will take place from 21 May to 4 July 2027 and marks the beginning of a long-term partnership between the Art Encounters Foundation and S.M.A.K. Ghent.

Project funded by the Municipality of Timișoara through the Timișoara Project Centre, as part of the Repere în cultură2026–2027 programme.

Apparatus 22 is a transdisciplinary art collective founded in January 2011 by current members Erika Olea, Maria Farcaș and Dragoș Olea together with Ioana Nemeș (1979–2011) in Bucharest, Romania. Since 2015 they have been working between Brussels and Bucharest. They see themselves as a collective of dreamers, researchers, poetic activists and (failed) futurologists interested in exploring the intricate relationships between economy, politics, gender studies, social movements, religion and fashion in order to understand contemporary society. A recent topic of research and reflection in the practice of Apparatus 22 is their SUPRAINFINIT universe: a world-making attempt to use hope critically in navigating the present and future. In their very diverse works (installations, performances, text-based shapes), reality is mixed with fiction and storytelling, and all merge with a critical approach drawing knowledge and experience from design, sociology, literature and economics.
