About the workshop

FACE TO FACE is a plasticine modelling workshop for children aged 4–10, organised as part of the Picasso en visite exhibition. Inspired by Pablo Picasso’s Cubist portraits, the workshop invites children to explore geometric shapes, colours and the possibilities of transforming images through different techniques and materials.

The workshop begins with a short guided tour of the exhibition, where children will discover Pablo Picasso’s artistic universe and learn more about Cubism and how the human face can be broken down and reconstructed using geometric shapes. Together, we will explore how facial features can be represented from different perspectives, how proportions can be altered and how an image can take on new forms through changes in materials and artistic techniques.

During the practical session, each child will create their own Cubist portrait using plasticine. Participants will have access to reproductions of Cubist portraits and other works from the exhibition, which they can use as starting points for their own compositions. Using a transparent surface placed over the reference images, children will model and combine geometric shapes to create relief portraits.

At the end, the artworks will be removed from the working surface and presented as individual objects, allowing children to discover how a two-dimensional image can be reinterpreted and transformed into a three-dimensional composition.
