Open call

Niki Residency Hannover, in collaboration with Art Encounters Foundation Timișoara, is pleased to announce the winner of the open call for a six weeks residency at Niki: Lera Kelemen, emerging artist from Timișoara.

The jury, composed of the Niki managing team members – the three artists Ole Blank, Enric Fort Ballester, and Maje Mellin, together with Birte Heier, cultural manager – had a difficult task and they would like to thank all artists who submitted their proposals. The jury was impressed by the quality of the applications and they based their final choice on the belief that Lera Kelemen’s multidisciplinary practice and her approach would function as an immersive multi-channel sound installation, starting from a research on the use of sound signals in the early means of telecommunications.

Many thanks to all the artists and supporters:
Kulturbüro Hannover and Hafven Makerspace

OPEN CALL

The Art Encounters Foundation in collaboration with Niki / Hannover is launching an open call for the first edition of an international artistic residency exchange for young artists based in Timișoara.

The period of the residency
The Art Encounters Foundation is launching an open call for a new artistic residency program. The residency will take place between April and May in Hannover, with a maximum duration of 6 weeks, within the platform created by the artist-run space Niki (http://niki-hannover.org/).

The purpose of the residency program is to encourage the exploration of experimental practices, to support the production of new works, to facilitate the exchange of ideas and to establish a meaningful dialogue between communities and cultural actors from different fields and cultural spaces. Through this partnership, the Art Encounters Foundation extends its network of collaborations with other residency spaces and independent organizations aiming at supporting the mobility and art production of young artists. It is for the first time that the artist residency is specially tailored for a young artist based in Timișoara and is designed to encourage the production of new works with the support of Niki and their partners in Hannover: professional production workshops, a space to be used as studio space and a dedicated budget.

The conditions
Niki will provide the artist in residence a studio space (ca. 25 m2) and accommodation in an apartment in the city of hannover. Travel costs will be covered up to a maximum of 250 €.

The Niki residence is kindly supported by “Hafven” (https://hafven.de/makerspace), a pioneer maker-space, where the artist would be able to get technical support and have the opportunity to use some of the newest technologies.

The artist in residence will be granted with an honorary fee of 1200 € and a production cost of 1000 €.

The artist will hold a public event during the stay. This can be an artist talk, an open studio or a similar format.

The selection criteria will take into account:

– The motivation of the candidate to dedicate himself / herself to an artistic project for the entire duration of the residency program
– The curiosity to get to know a dynamic artistic community, which is open to collaborations
– The quality of the portfolio and of the proposed project

The selection therefore looks, on one hand, at the project proposed by the candidate artists and the openness to experiment with new working models, and on the other hand, how this residency can offer them an opportunity for development in the future.

The team members of Art Encounters and the Niki team will be part of the selection committee.

Application and deadline:
Interested artists are invited to send applications by email to contact@artencounters.ro until February 1st 2020. Each application must contain a cover letter of maximum 1 page describing the project to be considered, accompanied by the artist’s portfolio and a short CV.
