The Art Encounters Foundation reaffirms its commitment to the Romanian art scene and its mission to contribute to increasing local capacity and creating new connections for the benefit of the artistic community.

We are announcing the launch of an open call for 6 artistic residencies meant to support contemporary creation and to encourage the exchange of ideas between artists, through a circuit based on the sharing of knowledge, experiences and research methods. The proposed residency does not require traveling to Timișoara or exhibiting the resulting artworks, but the commitment of the selected artists to a program through which their own creative laboratory and personal experience become means of support and learning for the future generations of artists.

Therefore, during the residency the selected artists will teach, on a mutually agreed day, an online mentoring course for students or young artists at the beginning of their career. The courses will take place exclusively online and each artist-resident is asked to teach a minimum 2-hour course in one day of every week of the residency (any day from Monday to Saturday).

Registration for the mentoring program will be possible after the final selection of resident artists and will include at least 30 students or young artists, who will be able to participate free of charge at any of the mentoring courses proposed, between June 29 and July 25 2020.

The artists selected for the residency will have the opportunity to share fragments of their research or the creative stages and ideas that their courses propose online, not only with the students, but also with the public. The Foundation’s team will assist the artists in preparing the mentoring sessions and facilitate their contact with the groups of registered participants.

Residency conditions:
Each artist will receive an amount of 5500 RON (gross) at the beginning of the residency and decide on the content and the structure of the mentoring course they will teach. Each artist will teach a total of 4 courses with a minimum duration of 2 hours each, every week of the residency.

The selection criteria consists in:
▪ The quality of the portfolio sent by the artists
▪ The motivation to share their work
▪ The theme chosen for the mentoring course

Application and deadline:
The application must include:
▪ a 1-page motivation letter specifying their interest in connecting with students and young artists, the topic and the structure of the mentoring course
▪ the artist’s portfolio and a short CV

Those interested are asked to submit their applications by email at:  contact@artencounters.ro. The deadline for applying is 5 June 2020.

Period of residency and mentoring:
June 29 – July 25 2020
